test1. How do I choose the right chain lube?
Choosing the right lube is just as important as lubricating your chain. The are a number of different types of lube that can be broken down into two categories Wet and Dry. Wet lube is best used in wet environments, when it is raining, muddy, or if there is any chance your drivetrain might be getting wet. It is thicker, stickier, and provides more protection than dry lube perfect for those winter mountain bike rides. Dry lube is best for dry conditions and is intended for summer use and can be used on road, mountain or ebikes. The benefits include that is dries on your chain, which means it is less prone to attracting dirt and easier to clean off your chain but prone to washing off your chain in the wet. Checkout our full range of Muc-Off chain lubes to keep your bike happy year round.
HOW DO I LUBE MY BIKE CHAIN?
It is super important to lube your bike chain. Not only does chain lube help keep your drivetrain running smoothly, it also acts to protect your chain against any corrosion. To ensure that your lube is doing its job properly, we recommend that you give your drivetrain a full clean and degrease before application. The easiest way to apply your chain lube is on the lower half of the chain on the inside. Hold the bottle so that the tip is just above the chain and aim to apply one drop per link. Once you have applied a coat throughout the whole chain, allow for the lube to penetrate the links before riding. Here at MyRide with stock a huge range of Muc-Off clean and lube products no matter what riding conditions you’re riding in.
2. How do I know if my chain is worn?
Knowing when to replace your bike chain is an important aspect of your bicycle maintenance and will help extend the life of your drivetrain. As your chain starts to wear, elongation will occur between the links. The most common agreed upon rule is once 1 percent elongation between links has occurred it’s time to replace your chain. There are multiple way to measure the wear of your chain. The most common is the use of a tool called a chain checker, like a rule but has a hooked end that slots into the a link in the chain, and at the other end has a pointed end that then tries to slot into the end of a chain. If it doesn’t go in, your chain isn’t worn yet, and if it slots in easily between the links, this indicates your chain is worn and due for replacement.
3. How often should I clean my bike?
Keeping your bike clean results in a better riding, faster and longer lasting bike. With regular cleaning of your bike you’ll reduce the likelihood of mechanical issues and having to constantly replace parts. How often you should clean your bike really depends on how often you ride and what conditions you’re riding in. For road bikes, we recommend that you clean and degrease your road bike every 150kms. For mountain bikes you should be doing a clean every muddy ride or in dry conditions every couple of weeks. CAN EBIKES GET WET?
The short answer is yes, you're able to ride in the rain and wash your ebike as all of the electric components are designed to be highly water resistant but are not 100% waterproof. Keep these things in mind to make sure your ebike is running smoothly and hassle-free is to avoid the use of high pressure washers as they can blast water past all of the seals and potentially damage electronics. Once your eBike is washed or comes back from a wet ride, make sure that you have dried off your eBike before putting it away for storage.
